Ananias Conklin - Mary Launder, Spouse - Much more about Ananias here

Ananias Conklin - A Glass maker. Born about 1600. Moved to America with his brother John between July 3, 1637 and April 25, 1638. They were granted land for a glass-house in Salem, MA. but, their business was unsuccessful. In 1645, they asked the court to be free of from their agreement with their former associates. They are credited with having the first glass works in New England, if not in all America. Ananias probably left Salem in April 1650, with his brother, Thomas Scudder and others, and was in Southold, N.Y. by May and then moved to East Hampton, Suffolk Co., New York. Ananias held several offices in East Hampton. He was elected fence viewer in 1653, 1656, and on April 7, 1657. He was an Assistant in 1654, and appointed Surveyor of Chimneys on February 4, 1656; chimneys above the jambs were built of wooden slats and daubed with mortar as protection against fire, and frequent inspection was necessary. Ananias died in East Hampton between April 7, 1657 when he was elected fence viewer, and October 5 1657, when his estate was inventoried. His burial place is unknown. Note of interest about Southold Long Island:

One of the first, if not the first settlement on Long Island. English Puritans from New Haven Colony in Connecticut settled in Southold on October 21, 1640. Under the leadership of the Reverend John Youngs, with Peter Hallock, the settlement consisted of the families of Barnabas Horton, John Budd, John Conklin, William Wells, John Tuthill, Thomas Mapes, Richard Terry, Matthias Corwin, Robert Akerly, Zachariah Corey and Isaac Arnold. They had purchased the land in the summer of 1640 from the group of Lenape who lived in the territory they called Corchaug. Settlers spelled the Indian name of what became Southold as Yennicott. This is of great interest to me because I am also of Lenape heritage.
